The thing that's starting to drain me is that they want to prop up prices without doing anything to put the brakes on production. We tried that in the 70s and it didn't work. Now here we go again,not paying any attention to history. What year was it that we had the farm bill that they called "Freedom to farm"? That was when the trouble started all over again. No limits on production,just promises of profit.
If you want to prop up prices,limit production so supply and demand come in to balance,then the markets will ensure that those payments only last a very short time. It's just too much common sense I guess. The dairy industry in the US is run by large producers,even the co-ops,and those large producers are totally opposed to any production limits. I can tell you that first hand as a fact from my years of involvement deep on the inside of Michigan Milk Producers Association.
