A number of years back a vehicle passed my house late at night and shined a spot light. I was up yet and stepped out to see what it was about. The vehicle continued past. Several minutes later a bunch of shots rang out. One passed close enough to me I heard the whift of the bullet. At that point I called the law. I then armed myself and got close to the road hoping to get a license number. When they left though their tag was obscured. When the deputy finally arrived, they determined the only violation was shining a spot light on an occupied dwelling since there was no proof they'd fired shots at deer. If they fired at coyotes, coons, or just random, it was legal since neither property where they shot was posted and they remained on the road. Crazy, but it is what it is. The road past my house is a dead end. Three people lived past me at the time. There is a housing division close to where they shot, but not accessible from our road. The Sheriff's department got over twenty calls about those knuckleheads. They were shooting an M-1 and loosed off three clips of 30-06.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Not a place one would associate with farms or farm machinery. I credit my parents for instilling a lot of good values, a respect for learning, a knowledge of various skills and a little knowledge of farming in me, amo
