I believe shooting a motor vehicle is actually a felony (occupied or not). Shooting towards a group of kids in the dark with a high powered rifle = dumbazz. Hopefully you were just exaggerating to make a better story.
With that said, if I drove into someone’s field and was out there tearing it up..I’d kind of expect to get shot at if the owner came home. It’s part of what discourages people from doing those sorts of things.
