Not much tractor related this weekend. Spent Saturday working on the garage door. It wouldn't lift easy, I believe because it originally had a lightweight door that was replaced by an insulated door which was too heavy for the springs. So first it got new springs which made it work good. Then I put in an opener. That took longer than I would like to admit. Lol. Then added new seal under the door and seals outside where there were none.
By the time I went to town and got that done Saturday was about shot. But the queen is very happy, so things are good in the kingdom.
Yesterday I worked on getting projects in the shop first. Getting the 1030 started was tough, the batteries were bad so I tried to pull start it first, but there was so much ice and it was so warm that the DC couldn't get enough traction to pull it. After some wasted time there I remembered I had 2 good batteries in the shop, so with two good batteries it started right up. So I was able to use it to pull the 400 in the shed to get worked on. Going to pull the block on it and have it bored because the counter bores are bad. And the 1030 needs some work too, a water pump and new fuel lines etc.
The rest of the day I spent piling up a bunch of junk wood that was laying around. There was a pile from an old deck, some old fence posts and feed gates that we're rotten and such. Most of it was burried under snow and froze to the ground, but the DC and loader worked good for digging it out. Sadly the water pump went out on the DC too. Must be the time for water pumps.
Then last night it was time for a bon fire to burn the pile. The weather was good for it, the snow kept it from spreading or getting too hot, and the wind was in the right direction to keep the Sparks away from everything. Had a bit of trouble getting it going because of all the snow, but once going it burned good.
The fire burned all night and still had a pile of coals this morning. I had hoped to get to the tin on the quanset shed this weekend, but that didn't happen. Maybe next weekend.

Today's Featured Article - Grain Threshing in the Early 40's - by Jerry D. Coleman. How many of you can sit there and say that you have plowed with a mule? Well I would say not many, but maybe a few. This story is about the day my Grandfather Brown (true name) decided along with my parents to purchase a new Ford tractor. It wasn't really new except to us. The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
