Wear is a function of abrasion. The more you abrade, the more you wear. Driving around the grass yard to mow the lawn will generate very little abrasion, and very little mileage. Driving down the highway generates a great deal of mileage, and a fair bit of abrasion, particularly with low air pressure. Hard plowing of large fields generates a good deal of abrasion and mileage. This all also varies the type of wear you will see on the tire treads. I've seen tractor tires worn out in a few months of highway driving, and I've seen tractor tires that are 60 years old and still have very good tread.
