We used to have the same problem with a Willeys Industrial engine on an irrigation pump. Every spring when we took it out of storage, it needed to have the points cleaned - else no run - no way!
Tips below are all great. Some engines just seem to develop corrosion on the points. Took a JD B out of storage recently - same problem.
