I certainly don’t mean to offend anyone by the use of the word duty, nor do I want to paint of picture of some great societal benefit any one person does my restoring a tractor.
That said, I think as a whole, the younger generation does have a duty to keep history alive. It’s not an individual duty, per se, in that I personally, or you personally, do not have a duty to restore any one tractor. However, I think as a whole, each generation does have a duty to keep the past alive.
Certainly duty to country, god, and family come way ahead of restoring old iron, but that doesn’t mean we can just let the past fade away. The duty to keep the past alive is a serious duty, and while it certainly is nothing in terms of sacrifice compared to our military members and law enforcement members, it is something this is vitally important nonetheless.
Think of all the historical items we have today, and all the records we have today from thousands of years ago, that are only around because someone felt it was important to preserve them.
Please do not get hung up on a single word, duty, call it what you will, but I think as a whole, the younger generation as an obligation to preserve the past for the future.
To 1948CaseVAI, I certainly don’t mean to diminish your daughters service, for it is without a doubt much more courageous than restoring old iron.
