Hey guys I’m a few years behind, but I need a little assistance with my ford 1700 2cyl as well. The issues are exactly as stated above, I have ran down two batteries trying to get it to fire over.
10 months ago, I was asked to get this little tractor running again, was told it ran when it was parked. So with a hot battery( and ) my ford Ranger’s boost , it cranked up, after some new fuel and bleeding the system of course. It cranked twice, but after its first test run in possibly years, it got super hard to crank on the third time, and after that , it just bellows out smoke, and backfires. I removed the front cover to inspect the timing gears ⚙️ all was fine. I have set the valve lash 3 times, once on the fourth time it cranked, and then again today, it is still the same. New oil, New fuel, cleaned and visually inspected the” glowing “ plugs. They work! Hmmm ? I’m stuck, tomorrow I’m going to do a compression test, any help would be greatly appreciated.
What is puzzling,is that it was running and strong it seemed, but got worse with every startup after that??
