The level plug is on the left side of the transmission, near bottom ahead of the final drive assy. (or approximatley below the shift lever) Usually the rod that operates the left brake is over the plug making it difficult to get a wrench on the plug. Only the very bottoms of the lower gears in the tranny run in the oil. Be sure that slinger gear inside the trans is good. They are made of "pot metal" and crumble to pieces. Maybe they fixed this problem on later tractors? This slinger gear splashes the oil around in the tranny when it's in neutral or you are using the PTO / belt pulley. There are troughs inside the transmission to catch the oil splash and direct it to the bearings and belt pulley housing.
