Gary, I've found the 70's era Nissan alternators are about the same diameter as the generators that I've replaced. They're also internally regulated and it's easy to figgure out the wiring. There are generally two terminals other than the output post, on typical internally regulated alternators. The exciter terminal is the one that "turns on" the alternator or turns it off. It's a lower input resistance than the other lead and will draw a small spark when you touch it to battery positive. The remaining lead is a sense line and can be tied to the output post. It's job is to "sense" the voltage at the destination and compensate for lead resistance. In most tractor applications, the leads from the alternator to the battery are of good size and compensation is not necessary. The input impedence of the sense lead is so high, it will never draw a spark when connected to battery positive. I got my Nissan alternator off of a 70's Datsun 810 but the same type alternator can be found on just about any of their cars/trucks of that era. Good luck.
