I don't know who you are talking to, but there are some really radical folks out there.
Just a bit of food for thought... They campaigned against a particular candidate for congress around here saying that he would end social security and Medicare as we know it. Strange that they gave him the deciding vote and the power to accomplish this all on his own. Then when reality sets in, suddenly no one congressman can do all of this on their own...
A former "leader" wanted to "outlaw" coal. See how far that got. I'd say that was pretty radical.
Then there is this big push for electric cars. To this day, the gasoline engine powered car is the standard to which all others are compared. And, they still can't match the performance of a gasoline engine or the versatility of that engine.
Bear in mind that this country is made up of over 330 MILLION people. Most of whom are dependent on vehicles that are fueled by liquid petroleum products. Do you really think that there is enough support to take away our vehicles for it to ever happen? One thing is sure. Until something better comes along, we are safe from the lunatics.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
