Nature Of The Beast...Don't Fix It, It Aint Broke!

9N's only have what is known as 'Draft Control'.
This was the invention of Harry Fergusson who made a deal with Henry Ford to market it on his Ford Tractors.

Draft control was designed to do exactly what you are seeing. Its' primary function is for pulling a two bottom plough. The draft control has a feedback sensing device attached to the spring behind the toplink point. Whaen you set the plough for a certain depth, the hydraulics sense if the plough starts to dig in or ride up and will adjust itself accordingly to maintain the set depth.

This system was designed before anyone had ever thought of attaching a rotary cutter to it. The 9N/2N only have draft control. The later 8N's 'fixed' this problem by adding what is known as 'Position Control'. This enables the lift to become 'touch' sensitive and takes the draft feedback out of the system. Makes it a whole lot easier to use implements such as a brush-hog or a back blade.

That all said, over on the N Board, there is a man by the name of Zane Sherman that has invented a device to give your tractor just what you need which is 'Position Control'...

The Zane Thang

Today's Featured Article - Talk of the Town: How to Remove a Broken Bolt - by Staff. Another neat discussion from the Tractor Talk Discussion Forum. The discussion started out with the following post: "I have an aluminum steering gear housing with a bolt broken off in it. The bolt is about a 3/8" x 1 1/2" bolt. I've already drilled the center of the bolt out with about 7/64" drill bit the entire length of the bolt. Only one end of the bolt is visible. I tried to use an easy out but it wasn't budging and I didn't want t ... [Read Article]
