Here in Minnesota things have jumped around some on large purchases. Taxes are 6.5%, but most all cities now are forced into an 'optional' 1/2% tax. New machinery was taxed at 2%, don't know if the optional 1/2% city tax applied. I believe that is being/ has been phased out to no tax now - as you can tell, it has been a long, long time since I bought anything new. The little items at the farm supply store are like you say, one store doesn't tax, the next one does, the next one doesn't even know farm items aren't taxed. Very confusing. Needs to be a specific feed or implement part used on the farm - tools or rope or something that a town person can use in his back yard is always taxed. --->Paul
