Apparently, ones mind filters things out at night, and I have experienced that based on things I recall happening that day or very recently. A lot them fade away and you don't remember them.
The vivid and bizarre content of mine are just hard to comprehend at times, just unreal. Used to have some that were me fighting my way out of a situation that in reality you would not likely get out of. What interested me in your post was the Chinese chef and the pans, out of nowhere the strangest things occur that have nothing to do with what preceded it. Same thing happens to me, but exponentially weird, odd, crazy beyond belief.
Mine are epic sometimes and may continue the next night. My imagination runs wild beyond comprehension, I've never understood it either. From epic battles to literally being able to fly and the details of that were incredible, like it was real, and happened numerous times. All I had to do was focus and concentrate on lifting off and it would happen, I would be flying around like it was nothing. No hallucinating kinds of drugs involved, just the darned silly imagination creating the strangest things.
The worst of the nightmares I could recall was due from a tragic experience having been near one of the events that happened on 9-11, eventually I was able to overcome it for good. Those were horrible recurring dreams I never thought possible. All other dreams were really interesting to say the least, nothing bad in them that stands out either.
