I also work with plastics everyday in my job, designing tooling for plastic injection, and I know well the strengths of plastics. The plastics used on the tailfins of an F-22 inteceptor would probably cost a hundred times the price of the plastic used on todays tractors. There is no comparision as such. I am also aware of how plastics have improved the healthcare system of this country, at a price. But I think you underestimate how much your buying of a '48 model tractor contributed to the economy of this country. Companies that make new tractors, and for that matter autos, need to make products that the consumer needs, rather than make complex products that we dont want, or need, and then add incentives to intice us to buy stuff we dont want or need! Make stuff that we need and has enough quality to satisfy us, and I am sure the majority of people in this country would be willing to pay for it.
