Trespass is trespass. There are no such "varying degrees."
Trespass is a civil issue, providing an easy "way out" for cops to avoid doing their jobs, which most would rather avoid doing. There is to much free coffee to drink and many free donuts to eat.
Generally, cops will not get involved unless the court system has escalated the issue to criminal trespass, after which they cannot avoid doing so. Legal escalation almost always requires an expensive law suit unless the trespassed party is a governmental entity or a cop. It's good to be a cop, commissioner, etc.
The issue is enforcement. Cops will enforce laws on the books against some folks but will not do so against others.
Private property is private property. There is no legal duty to so post. Cops will, however, use the lack of posting, as well as other easily used excuses to avoid doing the duties that they are being paid to do by the taxpayers.
I have learned from experience that cops do not like interfacing with folks that know the law. Be VERY careful if doing so, as cops will lie and the courts will believe the ignorant/dishonest cops, regardless of the facts. You will have no success proving an ignorant/dishonest cop a liar, regardless of the evidence, unless you have multiple sources of video evidence or something on the judge.
Sorry, folks, but I've been down this road multiple times, prompting me to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to go to law school, only to learn that the system is just the same as I already thought it was.
