As for going to a large venue and seeing a main stream "artist", no I don't do that anymore. The cost is prohibitive.
Now I will go to see local talent, preferably outdoors or a "house concert", a small venue or even someones house where the seating is very limited and people actually come to hear the music. Some of the best performances I have ever been to were in a repurposed 100 year old movie theater. Up close and personal!
I don't care for large venues, especially the bar scene where you pay to hear the music but instead get to hear Bubba and his buddies whooping it up at the table beside me! Those typically start too late anyway, they want to all the booze money they can up front.
I truly believe living in Texas has a big advantage on the music scene. I can find about anything I care to hear without having to go mainstream. No crowds, reasonable cost, support the locals, and by far the best entertainment anywhere!
