There are no wires to ground on an ignition system. The ignition points do provide a ground for the coil (negative side with negative ground battery). The coil should get power from the resistor. the resistor gets its power from terminal block, the block Left terminal with blue wire, should get its power from the left side of the amp meter (not the right) only thing on the right terminal should be the red medium sized wire from the solenoid. Lights should also be connected to the left side of the amp meter. The ignition key provides a connection between the terminal block connections when on. The alternator is separate, and has only one wire and it goes to the left side of the amp meter. The starter switch should only be connected to the small terminal on the solenoid. I think that starter switch grounds the solenoid to make the starter go. A certain amount of smoke will come off of the resistor when first operated, as they do get hot. Do not leave the ignition turned on with it not running
