We have more cattle on feed and brood cows than we ever have had. We also put up more feed than we ever did too. With near record crops we filled everything with corn silage that would hold it. Also did ten earledge bags this year. Hay we are fine on as I carried 450 rolls from two years ago. 250 of them are dry wrapped. If they are not needed this year they will be here for next. I often have 40-50% of my hay needs in reserve. I lived through two bad drought years by having hay on hand. So it is like money in a saving account to me. Never know when the next rainy day will come.
I started feeding the cows in Oct. this year. I am using a mix of processed hay, ground corn stalks, corn silage and wet corn gluten (by product of corn oil production). The cows are actually gaining weight. So I have backed off the feed a little bit.
