Not sure how the fuel system works on Chevy trucks, but I have a 2001 Dodge 1/2-ton plow truck. The fuel pump is in the tank, and there is a check valve on the pump to prevent fuel from back-flowing into the tank. Well, my check valve is bad. Had someone tell me to turn the key and let the fuel pump cycle 3 to 5 times, THEN start the engine. Have been doing that for a couple years now without problems. Check valve is still bad. Yet if I try to start the engine without priming the line a few times, the engine will turn over, but just won't want to start. And if it starts, wouldn't want to stay running.
Wouldn't hurt to at least try this and see. Won't cost anything but your time.
My fuel pump runs for a couple of seconds before shutting off. Immediately I turn the key full-off, then again to run the pump.
