Life has been "a box of chocolates" alright. Looking back, I'm thankful for having good teachers, friends and mentors, who offered good advice, rather than demanded I do things their way.
As long as I can remember, I loved anything mechanical and the tools to make and repair things. I can finally pick and choose the work I do, and have my little house and farm, and a pretty dandy machine shop. I don't plan to officially retire, and given good health, I probably never will.
I never wanted to be president, prime minister, or potentate. I'm pretty happy doing skilled work for appreciative customers. I have far more material "stuff" than I need, but keep some nice things that I enjoy.
I'm the child of depression era parents and grandparents, and inherited their values. A newer truck might be nice, but I don't really need it. I spend far too much on machine tools, but rationalize them by thinking "I can use that to make money". Don't ask me to explain the yard full of tractors!
Accumulating stuff has become less important, and appreciating good people more so. After a neighbouring farmer friend passed away a few years ago, I had a long talk with a favourite pastor on the subject of contentment. Some folks have lots and are never happy, some have very little and go through life with a great attitude.
Well, it's time to get off the computer and head into the city. I need a used stainless steel sink, some shop doodads, and musn't forget some fresh suet blocks for the tweety birds. It's not too cold, the roads are dry, and I'm heading out to do fun stuff. Life is good. unc

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point
