Lawn tractor at a good price on Craig's List. I call and tell the guy I'd like to come see get it. If he wants I'll come right then (late evening). No, how about tomorrow AM. I said 8am? and we agree on 8:30. I could tell he was a bit of a flake already so I tell him I'll call him at 8am to let him know I'm on the way. At 7:30 I get a call from him asking if I'm coming--YES I'll see you at 8:30. He says ok. Ten minutes later I get a text message from him that he's got to run into town and could we make it closer to 9am. Sure I reply. Then at about 8:30 I get a text that things are taking longer than he thought and could he call me when he got back. Sure (I'm getting annoyed but whatever). By noon I text him not to forget to let me know when he's ready. No reply and I never heard anything from him since. The post was removed later that day. WTF! I had full asking price in hand, in cash, with ramps loaded in my truck already to go get it.
Another posting for shelving on CL. Great price. I call and talk to the guy who says he's not at that location. I say just let me know when and I'll meet you there that I want them. He replies he really wanted to get them moved to his shop (30 miles away) and then he'd relist them. Well I'd save him the trouble of hauling them just let me know. No No he wanted to get them to his shop first. Well call me when you do. He replies just check back with him. A week later I see the post is still on CL and the location has changed. I called but I'm told he actually hasn't moved them yet and that he would be doing so (well at this point a week ago) and he would call me when he had them moved. Still no word.
I think it's become to easy to list things for sale because obviously they list them on a whim and then are too busy to be bothered to return messages or let you pick things up or... And it's experiencing this kind of crap that keeps people from responding to my for sale ads. And I'm the kind of person that answers the phone at the grocery store and after hearing they're on the way I cut my trip short and head home to meet them. Call me at 10:30pm and want to come get a ladder that night--sure come on by. You want to come at 7am, sure. After 11pm or before 7am thankfully hasn't been requested yet. :)
