I agree with most of the posts here. It's more important to ensure you change the oil often as breakdown occurs after a certain length of time. I have a continental 162 that calls for 20W oils back in the 50's. Seems like you can't get that weight around here anymore. When I bought it I used the cheapest 10W30 I could find. I would burn a bit in hot weather when heavy disking. Then I figured since if I can only get 30, I'll use synthetic 10W30 since it has more friction resistance and see what happens. Never had any problems since then. I often wonder if the refineries can really take out all the chemical impurities out of the recycled stuff they get back, and if a breakdown really means breakdown, even after re-refining.
