As several others have suggested, gas flow MAY be restricted by debris or ice.
There's a screen on the top of the fuel valve under the gas tank, protruding up into the tank.
They rarely give trouble unless some "bad" or dirty gas has been used.
Also, there's a mechanical fuelpump on the engine, and they occasionally fail.
Another possibility would be that the airfilter is packed with snow, or the paper element is soaked with water that's frozen.
Check for spark with a spark-gap type tester. Only if spark is intermittent or very weak should you mess with the breaker points, especially if not experienced with them.
On this engine, varying the point gap is used to set spark timing, and for proper, efficient operation the timing needs to be checked with a timing light and the point gap tweaked, as needed.
