I have a 49 farmall m that I recently overhauled with over-bore stepped pistons, and had the head redone. The tractor starts good and runs great under a load. If there is no load or is idling it will cough out of the exhaust almost like a slight miss, nut again under load it pulls strong and smooth. I do not believe it is a fuel problem since acceleration is smooth and crisp and all mixture screws respond well. The engine had been overhauled in the past to thin sleeves and I have not verified if the distributor has been messed with to back the total advance off. During an ignition tune-up after the overhaul I noticed that the distributor cam has a fair amount of play, to the point that when wiggling side to side I can change the point gap. I was wondering how probable it is that my running issue is caused by this worn distributor, and what would the best course of action be- rebuild, replace or just convert to electronic ignition.
