Often there are requests that start out with the phrase 'what can I haul, pull or push with a particular tractor or truck'. Sometimes when we respond and mention the legal limits we sound like we are raining on someone's parade. Many of us grew up on the farm where we hauled two tons of feed on a half-ton truck and nine tons of grain on a two-ton truck, but those were in different times (we did not have tv commercials for attorneys every 15 minutes) on rural roads with little traffic. These questions are often posed by people who claim to have little or no knowledge about what they are about to do. Many points are made about not going beyond what the truck or tractor will stop if the trailer brakes fail, another point is that in many of our agricultural areas the housing developments have brought in urban imigrants which may now outnumber the longtime residents 50 to 1. Many of these people have no idea on how to interact with a tractor or heavily loaded farm truck, and will cut or turn in front of you with no concept of the required stopping distance. We all enjoy telling and hearing the nostalgic stories, but let's give rounded responses so we don't turn 'NEWBIEs' into DEADBIEs". Issues on tractor restoration and implements usually only place the user at risk. When someone asks about taking something down the road many people can be placed at risk, this is why we have licensing, weight limits and inspections. We may not agree with them, but we can get stung if we sidestep them. This website and forum has grown rapidly and covers many more topics than it did in the past including hauling limits etc.. Is there a disclaimer statement relieving YT and posters for actions taking based on the posts. This post may stir up some heated responses, but they will be of greater substance than the big question of 'RED or GREEN'. By the way I own Red and Green and used to own Blue.

Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
