it depends.the head gaskets that have metal surfaces on both sides when in good shape can be reused.you want to clean it with steel wool and wash it with minerial spirits.clean block mating surfaces the same way too.look it & block over good for any damage.if in good shape paint gasket with 3 or 4 coats of hi-temp aluminum paint.install it while last coat is still tacky.torque as usual.on the 1st startup let engine warmup good,180 degrees at least.(use cardboard in front of rad if needed)after the first time you run engine let it cool.then check torque and retorque as needed.have reused gaskets this way on many hi-comp engines(including a chrysler hemi),a flathead shouldn't be any problem...wrenchman...
