For years i paid between 75 to 128 a year of pick ups and then the higher price for may one ton as i have not owned a car myself since 73 . A few years back while working on a customers tractor at his farm he got on my donkey about not having a Vietnam vet's plate . I told him i really did not want to advertise the fact that i was a nam vet . as i still feel the stigma of being one . the altercation i had at the air port in N J while waiting on a flight home just a couple hours after being discharged had already showed me how some felt about us returning vet's . So i never brought it up much . well Bob kept on bugging me about it as he was a nam vet serving 68-69 in artillery , where as i was a 67-68 vintage and was in the heavy fighting of the Tet offensive from day one of the start up till i was extracted out of the bush three hours after my org. freedom flight had are ready left with out me . But anyway bob kept it up and to just shut him up i said ok fine i'll get the plate . Well plates for my truck were due and i went in with my paper work this was something i dreaded was going to the DMV due to one girl that worked there , we will call her Wicked Wanda as she was just plum nasty she did not drive acar to work each day she must have flowen her BRoom to work with mutafloal rose bushes for a saddle . I get there and take a number and start counting to see just who i was going to end up with and yep it was her , i really don't want to deal with HEr and in comes this woman with four screaming brats and the devil whispered in my ear and said Swap numbers with her . So i did as Wanda deserves this . Well my number is called and i get a NEW girl a NICE new girl and i explain that i want my Vietnam vet plate this time around , and she says do you have your DD 214 and i said yes and layed it out for her to look at While she is looking at it from the far right side of the counter Wicked Wanda shouts at the top of her LUNGS WHAT DOES HE WANT and the young NICe girl say he wants his Vietnam vet's plate . She then say YOU COME DOWN HERE and take care of this woman and I WILL TAKE CARE OF HIM . Oh God here we go i can feel my PTSD coming on now . She comes up and first thing out of her mouth was DO YOU HAVE YOUR DD 214 and i said yes it is right in front of you , she slams her hand down on it and spins it around and now it upside down then slams her hand on it again and spins it back right side up then grabs it with both hands and picks it up and starts reading it , all of a sudden her face changes her mouth drops open her attitude changes and she say you don't want the Vietnam plate you want the purple heart plate , NO i just want the Vietnam plate i don't need to advertise that i got my donkey shot up over there , oh no you want the purple heart plate and insists that i take that plate and i why ??? and she says because they are FREE along with your drivers license and i ask her how long has this been going on and she tells me oh for a long time it was published in the paper many years back . Well my eagle eyed wife never saw anything about it my mother never saw anything about it and my Grand mother never saw anything about it . I told her i wanted a refund for all the years back that i paid for . yea like that would happen . This is the only thing i have ever received from my time in .

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Not a place one would associate with farms or farm machinery. I credit my parents for instilling a lot of good values, a respect for learning, a knowledge of various skills and a little knowledge of farming in me, amo
