I don't know what is the correct way, but I put primer on the entire tractor and not just sheet metal. I never really thought about not needing to prime the frame. Oh well, I got primer in the gallon cans, so there wasn't much need in being coservative with it I guess. The paint job on my H turned out O.K. on both the sheet metal and frame. Just wished I would of had more painting experience before I done my first tractor. The coat of paint was a little on the thin side I believe. I was to worried about runs I guess. On the second tractor that I painted, I done a much better job on the final coat of paint and it turned out better becuase of that. I primed the whole tractor on the second one as well.
