Same Vintage! 1943 must have been a good year :O).
We are surrounded here with old and new USAAF bases and RAF ones too. Wendling and Shipdham were very active during WW2, One of my fathers first jobs when he joined the RAF Regiment was to stand guard over crashed aircraft in the area, before he was sent overseas just after "D Day". So like the man in the story, we have a constant reminder of the sacrifices made. There is a Memorial to USAAF fallen close by here at Beeston.
Will you be at the East of England Vintage Show this year MJ? We have a new book out on the 28th February about Wrights of Dereham and hope to have copies there. Fred Milk provided pictures and I researched and wrote it.
