When I was in my 20's I would buy something that was not running because it looked good , of course I had no money then . Now I have more money , but even that V8 8N which probably runs good may have an old motor that was painted pretty , I would not pay top dollar without hearing it run .
If there is only one serious bidder on that 8N it will sell low .A few people may throw out some low bids and get it to $1500 - $2000 but not the $3 - $4k range . Some auctions have live online bidding . There may be a few people that would pay good money but not willing to drive a couple hours to join a circus . They may be willing to drive a few hundred miles to pick up an item they purchased .
If you Love your wife and kids , make an inventory of the big items you own and what their fair market value is . My wife does not know if my Kwikway boring bar and valve grinder with all the accessories are worth $50 or $5000 , and most buyers would tell her that $100 was the best they could give , maybe $150 just so they could help out a widow .
