We have had numerous antique tractors insured by State Farm (as part of our homeowner's policy). The only problem was getting an appraisal. They weren't satisfied insuring for the purchase price (nor were we if the tractor was purchased long ago, or if we thought we had gotten a really good deal). So, we talked over what we thought things were worth, showed them similar items in classified ads and auctions, and also talked to a couple other local collectors who also know the State Farm agent and it seems to have worked out fine. That was about 7 years ago, and now they seem happy to take our word for the values most of the time if we add a new piece. However, our family has been going to the same State Farm agent for more than 30 years, so we have a relationship. I am not sure you could just show up at an agency and get the same treatment. But, shop around, you might be surprised. Also, we don't insure everything, just a few treasures we think would be too hard to replace.
