It all started when these manufacturers went into the banking and finance business. They really dont give a hoot what product you buy as long as they can finance it and keep you coming back every 2-5 years for another one. Today they know that quality products will kill a business in just a few short years, they cant wait for farmer John's grandson to replace old "Betsy", they need John to send them money every month for life and the only way to compete for his business is with technology, new and better ways of doing the same job. They are selling him leisure time and prestige as well as comfort and ease of use not the machine itself. The shiny new high tech tractor is just bait for the bigger trap, once they got you hooked they want you for life.
