Mike, I agree that the term "off-topic" is not black and white. In fact, I've helped you with computer questions. The bigger picture is that discussion groups are based on topics for a reason. People use search engines to "hunt" information. Often, when they see that the discussion group returned as a search result tends to be off-topic, they don't return. This hurts Kim as her advertising revenue is based on hits and/or click-throughs which are a direct result of visits. It hurts all of us as some folks, who may have valuable things to contribute, don't. It also hurts you. If you really want to find out about B-52s, with all respect to the folks here, they are not likely to have a clue. After all, most of us know something about tractors; that's why we are here. But there are discussion groups where your post is very likely to be warmly received and correctly answered.
