back in the early days of snowmobiling (early 1960's) It was rare to go out sledding and not have to tow at least one guy home. Had several fellows with K-70 Polaris sleds. Reliable until they started installing the forward/reverse trannys. From then on it was a rare night we didn't have to tow them home. A fellow had one of the first Huskee 8hp sleds around. Fun things to ride.............................for about an hour. then you towed it home. The next year he got a 10hp model. Much more reliable. Always carried at least one extra drive belt and a couple of spark plugs. Usually had to use them, too. Replaced a set of wooden slides on a K-70 in the woods one night. Guy lost a slide. took him home, he went to the shop (he was a dealer) got a new pair, took him back and put the new set on and kept on riding. Remember the ones that used a bicycle generator running against the clutch for lights? They were good for about 30 feet ahead of the sled. Good thing we only went about 20 mph...................... Ride em on the weekend and work on em all week the get ready for the next weekend. Usually had 8-10 guys riding. One weekend word got around and we had 56 sleds showed up........................................Those were the days.(smile)
