I don't pretend to know the first thing about crawlers or CASE, but according to my copy of HOTLINE FARM EQUIPMENT GUIDE 1999 ed, the CASE 310D is a DIESEL, with a 188cid engine. The book lists a CASE 310C with a gas 148cid, and a plain 310 with either the 148cid gas or the 188cid Diesel. Could someone have installed the wrong sleeve (diesel) with the gas piston? Would you even be able to? This would certainl account for the extra room in the cylinder. Perhaps the dealer that sold the original rebuilder had a "wrong" sleeve in it. Just a thought.
