Amish folks have a lot of rules that seem very strange to us. And it varies from one area to another because they make a lot of the rules locally during their Sunday "meeting". There have been some writings and reporting about some of their customs, but they are very private people and tend not to talk about it much.
They won't own a car, but will ride in one. They don't own a phone, but will talk on one. They will own a diesel tractor, but not gas, and they won't use it to fit a field. They use stationary gas engines, sometimes. Women are subservient, but will drive a buggy to town. They don't vote.
Hopefully this will pique your interest enough to investigate how they live. They are a truly a fascinating people.
