I have fixed a bunch of B&S engines. A common problem is the woodruff key that holds the flywheel in place. Hit a rock or two and it starts to shear. When that happens, timing goes to pot. You don't have to take it out to see if that is the problem, just look at the top of the flywheel and see if the key is still one rectangle or now looks like two rectangles offset. If that isn't it, do what was suggested before me. Make sure it is getting gas by squirting a little into the carb or into the sparkplug hole. If it is getting gas, spark, air and is timed, it should work. If not, compression is the last issue. If that is a problem you have something major wrong, like rings, valves or headgasket.
