You know, it's funny how we've been sort of "brainwashed" into thinking that because something is expensive or advertised a lot that it is automatically of a better grade. Sometimes maybe, but certainly not always. I read an article in a Popular Science magazine some years ago about "cheap" no-name oils versus the nationally advertised "better" oils. Both types met warranty specifications for the vehicles. In this study, they used a lot of cars from New York taxi cabs and the study was done over quite a time and pretty high mileage vehicles. Basically, they had two groups of vehicles using the two types of oils. All the cars were brand new at the time. After whatever mileage was covered, the engines were torn down and the result was that there was no significant difference in engine wear between the two types of oil used. Of course, individual car results were all over the map for both types of oil, but overall there was no real difference. Now, this is just one study, but it was a study with lots of vehicles and lots of miles. One owners experience with one or two types of oils on one or two vehicles really doesn't prove too much. In any case, I wish I had kept the article so I could refer you to it.
