Canadian Tractor Purchase, Need Help!

I am looking at purchasing a tractor from a gentleman in canada. He has arranged to ship the tractor to me after I wire him the funds. Is there some way to make the transaction without putting myself in a position to loose $2500? If someone has purchased from canada any info would help!
