Well, I finally got my 400 done and outside.


I had gone through the motor years ago, but saved $300 at the time and didn't plane the block, so it wouldn't hold a head gasket. Since that engine is hard to get parts for, and it's parts are valuable, I decided to swap out the engine for a 301 from a combine and sell the 400 engine. The 301 is the engine that is in an 830. Took more than I thought to make it work including modifying both manifolds. The exhaust had to have the ports enlarged, I did that with a die grinder.


The intake manifold had a knob on top that hit the exhaust, so I had to cut it off and patch the hole. I then had to braze on the elbo as well since I had to cut off one of the bolts that held it on.


Once I got that all together it started and ran good. It wasn't til I tried to drive it that I remembered that the throw out bearing was bad. So I had to split it again to fix it. Of course the carrier was also bad, so I got a new one of those. Sadly it was a bit different and even tho it looked like it would work it didn't, so I had to repair the original by building it up with weld and having it turned down. No pics of that tho. And it took another split because I had to readjust the fingers. Oh well, anything worth doing is worth doing twice. Lol.
Anyway, I took a pic of the 400, DC, and 830 while I had them out.


Then it was back in the shed to wait for spring.


I moved the 830 to the project bay, it has com issues that need attention before spring.

No work on the corn planter this weekend because the 400 took so much time. Hopefully I'll get to it this week.
