I never frigged out what good the dust cover was leave it out I doubt you will ever miss it..[/quote:809e671b78]
Depends on the distributor. I've had some that the cap won't clip
on tightly and had no alignment notch without that dust cover.
Others worked fine without it.
I have a NOS dust cover out here in the original Ford parts box yet.
I would have to check to see if it's NAA or 8N. If they were different.[/quote:809e671b78]
I think I bought a new cap and it didnt fit the old dust cover so I bought a new dust cover and it doesn't fit the distributor. I may just put the originals back on. I'm fixing it for a neighbor that's not real mechanical so I'm trying to make it so he won't have to mess with it plus he is giving me a 8n that he let me drive many years ago. Thank you for the input.[/quote:809e671b78]
I don't think you'll go wrong re-using the original dust cover.
Not likely to go wrong with the old cap either, unless it is cracked
or severely worn by the rotor wearing marks into it. Just MHO.

After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
