Buy a pipe thread tap the right size and rethread it.Most likely the threads are not stripped its smooth because of pieces of the old pipe are still in the manifold threads.I've redone them on several Cockshutt and Oliver tractors just did the 1600 this past Summer.Its a slow process sometimes you need a very fine chisel to help clean out the threads and then clean up with the tap,heavy duty wire brush on a drill helps too.Pretty big tap think I paid about $50 for it about 20 years ago.
