Your actions are very ill-advised. Depending on your state's laws, your LEO friend may have broken the law by running the plate number for you. As for what you might or might not have done to the trapper's vehicle, you could be in big trouble if he claims you endangered his life.
Trespass and illegal trapping are serious enough offenses that your local sheriff and/or game warden should take action.
