1952 case dc magnito

I just bought this tractor and am trying to find the proper way to shut it off. The wire at the bottom front of the mag was disconnected and the switch it went to was shot. I replaced the switch and connected a new wire....No luck. I assumed that would ground out the mag and turn off the engine.. IN the meantime I turn off the gas....Any suggestions?
