Have done the change over in years gone by and used a generator and regulator from Chev. or other 12v G.M. products,think the 61 Chev generator was the approximatly same length. I guarantee you will pay much less for the set up and will have just as good a set up, both will be Delco. Bet you didn't know that a set of distributor points for a 57 Chev. 6 cylinder engine interchange with a 420! Worked for John Deere dealership during the hay-day of the Dubuque 2 cyls. Have seen this tractor running .with a 4 cyl chevy II distributor cap and only used 2 posts. They were great machines. We delivered many of them and most are still in use nowene Davis

12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
