I had an uncle who had several, mostly made up from modified Model A Fords.

I think a big problem was that it's hard to beat a "real" tractor's rear end, rims and drive tires.

"Doodlebugs" as they were sometimes called were still pretty handy for hauling wagons and so on, but they weren't the best for serious plowing and so on.
