I watched it twice. I met the guy. Honnold was visiting relatives near here few months after the climb and he came to the climbing gym I go to for some exercise. He's a level-headed, meticulous planner. He is also in superb shape, unusually skilled and has the climbing experience to know when to say no. He had the decades long desire to climb El Cap, put in two years of focused planning and in the month prior to the climb he went over the route, while roped, around 15 times. He stashed water bottles and food where he knew he would need them. He essentially choreographed every single move on a 3,000 foot vertical climb. He has a strict training schedule. The climb occurred on a training day. He likened the morning's climb to "four hours of light exercise" and went for his regular training that afternoon.
