Started out by getting my other combine home finally. It's a model 77 and is just like one dad had. One of my first jobs was following him around the fields driving our jubilee pulling wagons and running beside him so he could dump on the go. I was to small to pull the loads home, so I would hook to the empty wagons in the field and pull them til full then drop them for my brothers to get and unload.
I'm going to run my oats seed through it to help clean it.
Then I worked on my corn planter. Started with putting all new bearings in the discs, they were tight from sitting.
Then I has to make new shafts for the rear packer wheels, the hubs are cast and run on steel shafts and they had worn so much they were sloppy. So I bought larger shaft and drilled them out. The shafts needed to be drilled and tapped.
Then I worked on the drive system. This planter is so old it would only plant up to 21000 population, so I needed to gear it up. The flat chain drive off the wheels was at 2-1 ratio, so I found gears to make it 3-1 which should work ok. The wheel gear is just a gear I found at the salvage yard and a weld together hub. But the top gear is the clutch, so it needed to be altered.
I started by grinding the gears off.
Then I used the plasma to cut out a weld on gear to fit.
A socket worked great as a guide.
Just a little work with a die grinder and it fit good. Then weld it.
Then cleaned up and freed up the row units and put them together. The planter units are all working and should plant.
This week I'll be working on the fertilizer set up. Lots of fabricating there as parts are rotted away and not available anymore.

Today's Featured Article - Product Review: Black Tire Paint - by Staff. I have been fortunate in that two of my tractors have had rear tires that were in great shape when I bought the tractor. My model "H" even had the old style fronts with plenty of tread. My "L" fronts were mismatched Sears Guardsman snow tires, which I promptly tossed. Well, although these tires were in good shape as far as tread was concerned, they looked real sad. All were flat, but new tubes fixed that. In addition to years and years of scuffing and fading, they had paint splattered on
