I know from my own experience how hard it is to make money on Holstein steers .They seem to eat a huge amount and don't gain great, hard to get them fat. Buying feed gets spendy fast. How many head ? I always fed as much hay as they wanted and ground my own corn ration, pasture in summer ,tried to get in some silage too. When the price of baby calves went to the moon a few years ago I got out. My last batch that went to auction I did get a sizeable check, but the market was sky high at that time.
